JUNE 2023

Commencement
The University of Oregon’s 147th commencement ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 20. From editorial and marketing to videography and social media, University Communications helped to celebrate the Class of ’23 and assure that graduates and their guests were well prepared for their big day.

 
 
 

MARCH 2023

19th President Announcement
The University of Oregon announced John Karl Scholz as its 19th president in March 2023. The announcement was a collaborative effort involving staff from across University Communications.

Launch Oregon Boosts Innovation, Impact
The UO and the University of Oregon Foundation jointly established Launch Oregon, LLC, to support UO innovators in various programs and colleges at the university.

Communications Academy Launched
University Communications offers a range of student positions to provide UO students with opportunities to build a wide skill set and prepare their portfolios for a successful career after graduation.

Ballmer Institute Executive Director Announcement
In January, the UO announced the selection of  Katie McLaughlin, a prominent Harvard psychologist to lead The Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health. Strategic, video, web, and design teams contributed to the announcement, along with partners on University Advancement and within the Ballmer Institute.

 
 
 

OCTOBER 2022

Home Flight Scholars Program Launched
The UO announced the Home Flight Scholars Program. This program, available immediately to currently enrolled eligible undergraduate students, goes beyond breaking financial barriers for American Indian/Alaska Native (AIAN) residents to provide full tuition and fees to Oregon residents who are enrolled citizens of 574 federally recognized tribes.

Week of Welcome
The largest and most academically prepared incoming class in the history of the university arrived on campus this fall term. Across channels, University Communications helped to promote a weeklong slate of events and welcome the Class of 2026 to the flock.

Convocation
Following a hiatus during the pandemic, the UO’s traditional convocation ceremony returned in 2022. The communications teams in the offices of the President and provost helped to plan and promote this event, which honors our legacy of innovation and academic excellence.

UO Hosts World Athletics Championships Oregon 22
The summer of 2022 brought the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. University Communications staff successfully highlighted the UO as home to leading edge research and academics, especially in fields of sport and wellness, while communicating operational needs regularly to internal audiences.
