Trademark Licensing and Brand Management

The University of Oregon is one of the most recognized collegiate brands in the country. The UO Office of Trademark Licensing and Brand Management oversees the official use of the university's names, marks, and logos, ensuring they appear on quality products and in productions that reflect who we are as an institution. Every licensed product and approved use supports the university's mission and helps protect a brand that millions of Oregonians and fans around the world are proud to wear.

NIL and Trademark Licensing

Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights give student-athletes meaningful opportunities to build their personal brand. The university’s brand can play a powerful part in these opportunities, but special care and proper approvals must be in place.

Co-branded Merchandise

Student-athletes have opportunities to work with the university and outside companies to create co-branded merchandise, but special licensing and reviews must be completed.

NIL Promotional Activities

Many different companies engage Oregon student-athletes to help promote their business. However, restrictions apply to how the Oregon brand can or cannot be included.

UO Marketing and Promotion

Requirements for approval of the use of a student-athlete’s NIL also apply to marketing and promotion of the university.

Industry, Innovation, and Translation

The Industry, Innovation, and Translation (IIT) team within the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation serves as the engine for transforming UO research and innovations into products and services to improve the world. University researchers interested in commercializing their research can reach out to them at techtran@uoregon.edu
